Vannerie d’Amchit

Amchit's wicker workshops once supplied every market and balcony on the coast. This cooperative keeps the craft breathing: willow and reed cut in the wet season, soaked, and woven into bread baskets, trays and market bags on the same porch benches as three generations ago.

Weaving is winter work, done when the fields rest, and it has always been paid poorly — which is exactly what the cooperative set out to fix. Piece rates are set by the weavers themselves and published through made-ly.
